What if we were rewarded each time we rode a bus, common a bike or a car, refilled your water bottle, donated your time or recycled? Well, we can be now.

CU Boulder, a personality in sustainability and tech innovation, has teamed adult with PIPs Rewards to beta exam an app that marks and rewards a good we do everyday.

“It all started with a integrate of ‘what if’s?’ pronounced Dave Newport, Director of a Environmental Center . What if a some-more intent tyro was also a some-more successful student? Research in fact bears this out. And what if there were an App that helped to lower rendezvous among students in behaviors that expostulate adult success?

These were a questions that Newport was asking, and that a scrappy immature startup he knew was obscure over too. PIPs Rewards, a Certified B Corp (which means, that per their corporate charter, they have to ‘be good’ as good as ‘do good’) has been building a resolution they call a “motivation/engagement engine.” Its aim is to lower rendezvous in profitable choices – boosting personal, village and heavenly health – all by a fun, amicable mobile knowledge that mashes adult intelligent tech, beliefs of behavioral psychology and a ‘currency of change.’

The ‘currency of change’  – called PIPs for ‘Positive Impact Points’ – is warranted and redeemed exclusively for verifiable daily life behaviors that advantage a planet, village and personal health.

What sorts of profitable behaviors are we articulate about? On and around CU Boulder, students will be means to acquire PIPs for:

  • Bike sharing with B-Cycle and BuffBikes
  • Ride pity and carpooling with Lyft and Lyft Line
  • Car sharing with eGo CarShare
  • Riding the HOP bus
  • Recycling their mobile or laptop, and buying ‘new to you’ with Gazelle
  • Shopping easily used and selected wardrobe with Etsy and ThredUp
  • Volunteering on campus and with internal non-profits
  • Attending CU events
  • Offsetting your CO footprint with Oroeco
  • Saving and debt reduction (coming in 2018)
  • Reducing and simplifying by donating things they don’t need with Give Back Box
  • De-stressing and detaching from their phone with LifeOffline
  • Refilling their H2O bottle

Once earned, PIPs can be exchanged for implausible deals during internal restaurants and shops, for credits on internal services like eGo and Lyft, on books during a bookstore and for apparatus rentals and aptness classes during a Rec Center. Or students can spin them in for good bonus on inhabitant online brands or to make a concession to a good cause.

“The rewards are important, and tip performers and many active can acquire prizes in addition,” records Wendy Gordon, PIPs co-founder and CEO. “But a App also comes prepared with contests and challenges, and there are some-more in a pipeline. We are fervent to exam these collection in tiny groups and large, to see either some fun foe and a hold of warn and pleasure can boost recognition and rendezvous in healthier, smarter bland choices, delivering unique habit-changing advantages as well.”

Unlike other rendezvous tools, a PIPs App requires that each movement is accurate before PIPs are awarded. To this end, a App connects adult to a series of information entertainment methods and tools, including: API integration, beacons, sensors, QR codes and transaction reports. In an series of cases, Gordon notes, “the intelligent collection we use – like beacons on a HOP train and in eGo carshares and an API formation with BuffBikes and Lyft – meant a user can acquire PIPs but carrying to take their phone out of their pocket. Now that’s what we call ‘reducing friction.’”

The beta rollout began in early September. Interested in being a beta tester – ‘kick a tires’ if we will on this innovative new platform? Download a PIPs here
