Go hands-free in a laboratory or makerspace with Mauro Pichiliani’s voice-controlled magnification glasses.

It’s a kind of magnification

We’ve all been there – that impulse when we need another span of hands to finish a task. And while these eyeglasses might not reason all a answers, they’re a ideal further to any hobbyist’s arsenal.

Introducing Mauro Pichilliani’s voice-activated glasses: a span of frames with magnification lenses that can flip adult and down in response to a voice command, depending on a charge during hand. No some-more wanting to put down your collection in sequence to put magnifying eyeglasses on. No some-more perplexing to re-position a magnifying potion with a behind of your left wrist, or removing douse all over your lenses.

As Mauro explains in his educational for a glasses:

Many professionals work for many hours looking during really little areas, such as surgeons, watchmakers, trinket designers and so on. Most of a time these professionals use some kind of magnification eyeglasses that helps them to see improved a area they are operative with and other little equipment used on a job. The inclination that had magnifications lens on a form cause of a potion customarily concede a veteran to pierce a lens out of their eye sight, i.e. put aside a lens. However, in some scenarios touching a lens or a potion edge to pierce divided a lens can pervert a fingers. Also, it is unwieldy and can mangle a thoroughness of a professional.

Using a Raspberry Pi Zero W, a servo motor, a microphone, and a IBM Watson speech-to-text service, Mauro built a span of eyeglasses that lets users control a position of a magnification lenses with voice commands.

The eyeglasses Mauro modified, before he started work on them; we have to pierce a lenses with your hands, like it’s Oct 2015

Mauro started by dismantling a span of customary magnification eyeglasses in sequence to cgange a lens supports to concede them to pierce freely. He drilled a hole in one of a lens supports to yield a place to insert a servo, and used lollipop sticks and prohibited glue to repair a lenses relations to one another, so they would both pierce together underneath a control of a servo. Then, he set adult a Raspberry Pi Zero, installing Raspbian and program to use a USB microphone; after joining a servo to a Pi Zero’s GPIO pins, he set adult a Watson speech-to-text service.

Finally, he wrote a formula to move a plan together. Two Python scripts approach a servo to lift and reduce a lenses, and a Node.js book captures audio from a microphone, passes it on to Watson, checks for an “up” or “down” command, and calls a suitable Python book as required.
